We understand that most buyer research is done on Google, and that most first-page results in the boating vertical are content-farm rewrites of builder press releases. That is the market we publish against. Our answer to it is discipline.
Named bylines, disclosed credentials
Every review carries a byline. Every byline includes the reviewer's credentials and years in the category, linked to an author page with their full disclosure. If a reviewer has owned a boat from the builder, it is disclosed on the review page. If we received a product loan, the loan terms are disclosed. If we rode on a dealer-supplied demo, that fact is on the review.
Cited sources
When we reference a specific forum thread, we link to it. When we reference a published editorial test, we name the publication and the date. When we reference a mechanic-level source, we name the forum and the role. We do not attribute observations to "one reviewer" without naming the source.
Corrections log
Every review carries a "Last updated" date. When we correct a spec, a price, or an observation, we note the correction on the review page itself. We re-test gear annually. We re-sample pricing quarterly on live top guides.
No pay-to-play
No builder pays for a top-guide spot. No sponsor has approval authority over any review. Advertising on the site is banner and newsletter sponsorship only, with clear sponsor labels and no editorial input. Affiliate links earn commission on gear reviews at no cost to the reader, and the presence of affiliate links does not influence which gear is reviewed.
