Origin and ownership
Manitou was founded in 1985 in Michigan. The brand built performance-focused tritoons and grew through the 2000s and 2010s as the pontoon segment expanded into premium territory.
Marine Products Corporation acquired the brand in 2024, consolidating with Chaparral, Robalo, and Blackfin under one parent. Production stayed in Lansing through the transition.
Design philosophy
The X-shape hydrofoil tube design is the brand argument. The asymmetric tube cross-section reduces drag at high speed and gives the boat a sport-boat-like cornering response.
Yamaha and Mercury are both factory rigging options.
Used-market notes and known issues
X-shape tube design requires precise weight and load distribution, factory tuning matters.
Yamaha F300 V6 and Mercury Verado corrosion patterns apply.
Cushion vinyl on 2017 to 2019 hulls shows delamination in sun-heavy markets.
MPC dealer network since 2024 ownership transition.
Resale
Manitou holds resale at the top of the pontoon segment, comparable to Bennington. Three-year depreciation runs 12 to 18 percent on Legacy and X-Plode hulls.
Where Manitou fits
Buyers cross-shop Manitou against Bennington, Harris, and Barletta. The argument is the performance-focused X-shape tube design and the higher-horsepower handling.
