The Slayer Propel 13 is the boat that fits between the Hobie Pro Angler 14 and the Old Town PDL 120 on price and feature set. Native's Propel pedal drive is a true bidirectional prop drive (forward and reverse with a flip of a lever, not a clutch), the 34-inch beam is narrower than both Hobie and Old Town but the hull design uses a tunnel-shaped bottom that increases standing stability disproportionately, and the price slots at $4,000 new which is meaningfully under the Hobie. The trade is on resale and on dealer-network thinness, Native is a smaller brand with thinner regional dealer coverage than Hobie or Old Town. We tested a 2023 Slayer Propel 13 on the Indian River in February 2025 and the boat surprised us, standing stability was closer to the Hobie than the beam suggests due to the tunnel hull, and the bidirectional Propel drive made low-speed maneuvering meaningfully easier than the Old Town's clutch-reverse system.

What works

  • Propel pedal drive is true bidirectional, no clutch lever for reverse
  • Tunnel hull design closes the standing-stability gap vs wider-beam kayaks
  • Hull weight 95 lbs, lightest 13-foot pedal kayak in this guide
  • $1,800 under Hobie Pro Angler 14 new, the price-feature sweet spot
  • Standing-stability bar pre-rigged for assist-up from seated position

What does not

  • Native dealer network thinner than Hobie or Old Town, parts turnaround slower
  • First Class seat is comfortable but not three-plane adjustable like Hobie Vantage CT
  • Resale 5 percent harder than Hobie or Old Town at three years

Pricing, April 2026

  • New: $3,899–4,299 new (2026 MSRP)
  • Used: $2,400–3,500 (2021–2024 hulls)
