Bennington is the segment-leading premium pontoon builder, founded in 1997 in Elkhart, Indiana. The brand has been Polaris-owned since 2018, after Polaris acquired the previous parent (Boat Holdings). Production stays at the Elkhart facility.

The brand argument is fit-and-finish at the top of the pontoon segment. Bennington tritoons run 20 to 30 percent above the volume builders (Sun Tracker, Tahoe) and target the buyer who treats the pontoon as a serious watercraft rather than a budget-tier alternative.

Buyer's guide

The Bennington story and what to know on the used market.

Origin and ownership

Bennington was founded in 1997 in Elkhart, Indiana. The brand grew through the 2000s and 2010s as the pontoon segment expanded into premium territory.

Polaris Industries acquired the parent (Boat Holdings) in 2018, consolidating Bennington alongside Hurricane and Godfrey under one corporate roof. Production stayed in Elkhart through the ownership transition.

Design philosophy

Bennington tritoons use a center log with a deeper draft than the outer tubes, which gives the boat a tighter cornering response and better tow-sport tracking.

Yamaha and Mercury are both factory rigging options. Suzuki is occasionally available.

Used-market notes and known issues

2014 to 2016 R-series Elliptical tube weld pattern cracked at the strake on hard-cornering watersports use, documented across owner-mechanic forum threads.

Yamaha F300 V6 and Mercury Verado V8 corrosion patterns apply to saltwater-stored Bennington hulls.

Cushion vinyl on 2017 to 2019 hulls shows delamination in sun-heavy markets.

Polaris dealer network supports nationwide service since 2018 ownership transition.

Resale

Bennington holds resale at the top of the pontoon segment. Three-year depreciation runs 12 to 18 percent on tritoons. Five-year depreciation runs 22 to 30 percent.

Where Bennington fits

Buyers cross-shop Bennington against Manitou, Harris, and Barletta at the premium pontoon segment. The argument is segment-leading fit-and-finish and Polaris-supported service. Buyers who prioritize entry pricing should look at Sun Tracker or Tahoe.

FAQ

Frequently asked.

Why pay the Bennington premium?
Fit-and-finish at the segment top, build discipline that supports the resale floor, and Polaris-owned dealer network with nationwide service. The premium versus a Sun Tracker is real but the resale floor recovers a meaningful share of it on the secondary market.
Twin tube or tritoon?
Tritoon for any tow-sport use, any horsepower above 200, or any tight-cornering preference. Twin tube for budget-tier or pure-cruise use under 200 horsepower.
What's the maintenance cost on an L25?
Annual service on twin Yamaha F300 V6 outboards runs $1,800 to $2,400. Bottom paint $300 to $700 (aluminum tubes). Storage $1,200 to $3,500. Insurance for a $90,000 hull runs $700 to $1,400.
Where are Benningtons built?
Elkhart, Indiana. Polaris-owned facility.
